Elmore County EMA has been notified by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) that Elmore County will receive approximately $52,046.36 from FEMA in hazard mitigation grant funding. We are receiving this mitigation funding as a result of the December 2015 storm events in which Elmore County was included in a Presidential Disaster Declaration. Counties that were declared following that event are eligible for hazard mitigation funding.
Changes have been made to the Hazard Mitigation Program order that local jurisdictions prioritize their projects rather than the AEMA prioritizing the projects. As part of these changes, now we are told a target dollar amount to apply for so that we do not spend time needlessly in developing project applications that would never be funded. In order to identify and prioritize the local projects we must convene the members of our local Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee (our Multi-agency Coordination Group) to go through the process of identifying and prioritizing our potential projects that may be funded through this program.
Please accept this correspondence as your invitation to attend the meeting on July 12th, at 9:00 a.m. at the Elmore County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). At this meeting, we intend to identify potential mitigation projects, prioritize the projects we as a group decide to go apply for and go over the process and timeline for the application process. If your agency or organization is interested in being present at this meeting to assist with identifying potential mitigation projects and prioritizing the projects that are identified we would like for you to attend. We want this process to be open to all of our stakeholder agencies across Elmore County.
Please make plans to attend this meeting as your involvement is essential to have a strong mitigation program in our County. If you have any questions or if you need any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me anytime!
Please contact us at (334) 567-6451 to RSVP for this meeting in order for us to plan on enough seating.
